BB King's Bound & Down

Obviously, after I hyped up Mood Muzik 4, it's only natural that I made attendance mandatory for the album release concert tomorrow at one of my favorite venue's, BB Kings.

Hopefully Budden will be in attendance. According to the New Jersey Journal, a warrant has been issued for his arrest after Budden failed to pay $13,000 in child support. A charge he was arrested for a prior time in 2009.

Hopefully my man will use his paycheck from Tuesday night's concert to cover the diapers. I am not trying to miss this concert over some, "baby mama drama". My dad didn't pay child support, and his ass never got locked up for it!

If you're not down with the get down, I suggest you hit up Ticketmaster ASAP for a ticket. They are only $20 and the funds will benefit a young New Jersey baby.

                                                   "Chuck, Chuckin' up the DEUCES"

PS - Joe Budden tweeted at me that he will be going on stage around 11... So don't show up early because there are no opening acts.

Joe Budden - Mood Muzik 4

According to my book of records, there are only three positive things that have come out of the state of New Jersey...  Giants Stadium, The Jersey Shore, and Joe Budden.

The more I listen to Budden, the more I wish he was from NY. Unfortunately, life isn't like the Yankees, and we can't just buy & take credit for all the talent out their in the world of hip-hop.

That being said, Mood Muzik 4 might very well be the best mixtape/album out of Budden's career to date. The full mixtape leaked this weekend and as I work my way through the tracks all I can think is, "how does this guy not run out of lyrics?" What Budden is doing on this album is giving me hope for hip hop. His lyrics display a great deal of depth, which not only demonstrates his lyrical talent, but the amount of work/time he put into it; which is something I cannot say for most of the main stream rappers (AKA Lil' Wayne) whom often seem like their verses are a freestyle they spit while half comatose.

The first song I feel in love with off the album is a track entitled, "Black Cloud". Joey has a knack for making what I refer to as, "anthems" - Serious-toned songs that I find myself listening to on the regular that get me focused and amped while I go about my day.

Another song I want to talk about off the album is, "No Idea". Joey demonstrates what I would consider the only "cool" way to sing on a track. No robot-voiced-auto-tuned-bullsh*t, No Drizzy-Di*k-Ridin', just real thoughts and emotions over protools.

"So sick it’s livid, all pics are vivid,
A stiff of being gifted, gotta be equipped to live with- His critics, misquote him
and miss tid-bits - So he’s mislabeled, misunderstood, misfit’d"

"...A doomed fate,
living with who you’d soon hate.
Ex life partners

trying to co-exist as roommates.
Once you go through it you’ll believe it
And you’ll never give a woman more than you’ll want her to leave with"

Top Tweets

Now it's no secret that twitter is everywhere. It seems like everybody is "tweeting" (or as I prefer to call it, "twitting") all the time. But it seems like rappers have taken it to another level. My timeline is constantly blown up with tweets from some of my favorite rappers; and while they are entertaining, I am starting to worry that they are focusing too much on twitter, and not enough on their music.

Nonetheless, I love it. To be honest, the only reason I ever set up a twitter account in the first place was to follow Rappers..... and Shaq. But I am sorry to say I can't remember the last time I checked out what the big fella had to say, because the more rappers I follow on twitter, the more their thoughts flood out anyone else's.

That being said, I am going to start a weekly post featuring what I think are the "Top Tweets of the Week" - Kind of like the Sports Center Top 10 of Twitter. Not exactly sure how I am going to go about my selection process just yet, but for now, here's a preview to grab some interest.

TOP TWEETS:

My New Benz All White, Call It John McCain

Ill license plate
This is the most appropriate license plate I've seen in a minute... best part is, this song was bumpin' out the subs!

I Been Gone For a Minute, Now I'm Back With The New Sh*t

, Alright, so I know I've been slacking but here is what should def be on blast in the whip right now.

1.) First off, the hottest track out right now might very well be the Mechanics Remix. The sample is tough, and the track is packed with New York MC's. Including two of my all time favorites, Busta Rhymes and the M.E.T.H.O.D. MAN -

2.) Secondly, I know it's been out for a little while now but I have to mention it... The "runaway" joint by Kanye Featuring Pusha-T is one of my new anthems. Hands down one of my favorite songs to rock-out to on solo while I'm beastings on fools on 287.

3.) For my corny track of the day, I have to say I've been bumpin' this new 50 cent & Jeremih, "Down on me". Honestly, for all the haters out there, play this & try and tell me it isn't hot!

4.) And finally, Here's my throwback for the day - Busta Rhymes, "So Hardcore". If you forgot about this one, I don't want to know what other sh*t you been forgettin' in your life.

Joell Ortiz Freestyle - "Joell Christopher"

There's no doubt Joell Ortiz has been absolutely killin' it lately. Since he ripped apart the booth on Funk Flex I haven't heard anything I don't like from rap's top free agent. His newly released track entitled, "Joell Christopher" goes hard. The first release off his next mixtape, "Mixtape of the Year" dropping november 16th, backs up the cockiness of the title. My favorite part of the verse comes at the end. "Untamable dog go on and fetch me a whisperer, Joell Christopher, the best spitter... And don't forget the signature - YAOWA"

Now Lets Start The Show

To the few that may ever glance at this; Welcome. This is my first blog post of what is hopefully  (if I succeed at sticking to it) just one of many. I plan to discuss hip-hop on a variety of levels and topics, and from different angles. However, being raised in New York, and being a full-out New York hip-hop fan, I am going to be biased towards my state. That does not mean I won't talk about hip-hop outside the tri-state, but it does mean that it will be my primary focus.

As I begin to slowly create this blog, and make my first post, I stumbled upon a new Kanye track entitled, "Devil in a New Dress." I still haven't got back into Kanye since I became a hater after his album, "808's & Heartbreak" (and no, I wasn't crazy about Power, and I hated that "artistic" video he TRIED to pull off) but I can't lie, this song is going to get me back into his music.

"Put your hands to the constellations.
The way you look should be a sin,
you my sin-sation"

The beat is classic Kanye; dope sample, dope drums. But what I've been missing from the Louis Vuitton Don is that old "feel-good" music he used to drop on us when he first came on the scene. This reminds me of that. I pray for his rebirth.

Now I can't say it is hotter than Kanye's, but I was shortly after put-on to J.Cole's version of the track and I couldn't help but feel like his version entitled, "Villematic" may overshadow Kanye's. Cole slowly continues to be one of my favorite new rappers. Although he isn't from NY he did attend St. John's University, so he was SCHOOLED IN NY. For me, he kills it with this opening line...

"To the college kids, no scholarships
starting your semester.
Unpacking your suitcases, filling up your dresser.
Enjoy it while you got it, after that it’s God bless ya.
Life is your professor, know that b-tch is gon' test ya."

And Continues to kill it with more lines that a college kid like me can't help but love right now.

"Why Ya'll was browsin', I was takin' out them student loans.
Tryna do this shit better than the niggas that we grew up on.
Name a fuc-in song I ain't threw up on.
Talk is cheap it's like y'all grew up in a jewish home."

Both are definitely about to stay on blast in the hoop-T for the next few weeks.
